peter feigin twin brother

It's like it really is part of your life. Peter: That was the Milwaukee Bucks. And as Marc kind of ventured out over a decade ago . Peter: Wow. And I obviously was kind of like I call myself the Division 3 dream. Some people dont like to hear that anymore. For Feigin, Lasry, Edens, Dinan, head coach Jason Kidd and the entire organization, Antetokounmpo, born and raised in Greece to Nigerian immigrants, is a business unicorn. But yet, still being leaders with more than a vote movement, just amazing, amazing. He thinks hes going to sell the team. Low and behold 24 hours, called him back and I said, oh, hes going to sell the team. By form, I think your strength of your network is as strong and as smart as you can possibly be. Michael Red: After knowing you for the last six years, personally, two qualities stand out: Extremely funny and extremely generous. Whether it's police reform, whether it's incarceration, whether it's education, whether it's food desert. Welcome to the impact podcast, Peter. But it's also, listen like I wish, I have patience for nothing, and I think what I'm learning and trying to get a grip of is like how do we chip away over every issue of social justice. She is like, "We're in this together." You're certainly allowed to have fun, because we have fun. And they were kind of stuck at the last minute deep in the summer. You talked about the head of human capital, and obviously Im proud to say, and Im only saying this with love, youre a native New Yorker like I am and were people, people. Michael Red: One thing that impresses me about our organization is how diverse it is. Do you want to be in a place where people are having fun and were trying to get rid of all the toxic. I'm so proud for his development. Theyre the worst. Now youve been to the top of the mountain. They all had the space, they're at Disney, they have all the amenities. We had weekly calls. "We didn't have much time," he says. You start with whats the goal? Peter Feigin: And then I think, the bigger picture is we really have to accelerate becoming the world's team. And I believe in my heart that the Bucks were real leaders in that moment. You got into really like, "How do we create resources for people to just talk about how they're feeling, about how they vent, about how do they get support for their lives?" By the way I never wouldve said this seven years ago, I think you have to be involved. But youve not only lived the dream but also climb to the mountain and very few win a championship. But talk about that dynamic leading through that. And how did that all come about? This kind of like, "Why are we looking at other people's metrics? We hired an unbelievable CFO. How do you get people who care? So that that's been kind of part of my learning is like, "How do we create a system that we're in a much better place six months from now and a much better place 12 months and a much better place three years from now that we've shown change in metrics and results and everything like that. Talk about the journey to the Bucks and how did that happen and then why Milwaukee? How do we get the people to try and start the journey to professionalize and really build a gold standard operation. That's the way we think about it. Some guys I went to high school with some guys who played college, and I leaked it at the opportunity at that game on a Saturday morning and everybody went absolutely nuts because for better or worse, Im kind of being your average guy, you do not think Peter Fiegins going to have the opportunity to become an NBA president to do it and these jobs are so rare and so incredible. We spend a lot of our time really trying to figure out what are the levers to move the revenue. We heard it straight from. Go to the Cluckery. And Peter, now is the President of the Milwaukee Bucks and has done an incredible job over the years with the Bucks since he's landed in Milwaukee. Peter: We knew each other. Now just, we've talked about your background. And obviously, you have dealt with a little bit of this with Sterling Brown a couple years ago, so you guys happened to prepare for this a little bit. Engage is the go-to spot for booking talent, for speeches, custom experiences, live streams, and much more. You're a true friend, Peter, at least until you drop the parking ticket on me. Peter: Weve been married like a hundred years. But while it is nice to connect, Kearns described the calls as artificial sweetener. It is not the same. Maria Natalia Mendez, a daughter of Dr. Nena Mendez and Dr. Hermann Mendez of Manhattan, was married Friday to Peter Feigin, a son of Barbara and James Feigin of Manhattan. Msgr. So, if you're against equality, then we probably never will understand or get along or agree with each other." Players, for 50 nights a year, land at 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning to get home and kind of do what the time balance is. Im probably like someone who gives everything away. And that's kind of the way I think about everything. These are special socks, so you bring me back a pair of socks. Thats just what a joy. How did that come together? Twin brothers Peter and David Paul are best known for their role in The Barbarians (1987). Peter Feigin, youre making an amazing impact. They have been through a system, if nothing else, highly competitive basketball for the last 12, 14 years, including kind of being shelled up in college, and what the pros are. Within 45 minutes, we had this unbelievable excitement of, were nuts, why dont we do like take home its big ordering out. A lot of storytelling and symbolic, and its been 50 years between championships. And that's kind of like you do it with great people around you. It is so important that kind of at least in our infrastructure. My mother was one of the preeminent ad executives from Grey Advertising for 40 years. This again becomes a platform of an NBA brand extension that just explodes with engagement. He captained. Michael Red: It's been wonderful to watch. Talk about having arguably the greatest player in the world on your team. In a 10 year phase, I started with a startup with Marquis Jet, with Kenny Dichter and Jesse Itzler who started the business and came from sports. You talk about advantages, just the osmosis at our dinner table was I knew in two seconds like I wanted to be in business. People who do argue are kind of not allowed back.. I never wanted to be that guy with the goggles and the knee brace and the tucked-in shirt being like, Hey! And a diverse community gives us diverse thought, gives us better outcomes. Peter Feigin Title: President Organization: Milwaukee Bucks Previous experience: Chief marketing and revenue officer of Deluxe Entertainment Services Group; president and chief operating. I don't know how to talk about that other than like my dad was like my hero and he was selfless and kind of quietly just did anything for anybody and kind of was like that's how I had value for him. But I think, those are the things that like, yes, you can always pay people. We were sitting brainstorming like, how do we keep people employed? But then theres, in this group weve got 300 full-time people and 250 of them are involved in volunteering. There's no living room, there's no central square, there's no big public park kind of in the middle of the city. Peter Feigin: Khris Middleton, as you can imagine, nobody understands that players have been having to get COVID tested twice a day and you got to come into our training center and we have parking spaces. We've got one of the global sports stars in the world. Our dinner table conversation. We don't have a business, not sure when we will have a business. You got to be someone that actually that enjoys being here and part of the family culture and part of an organization. Peter: Probably, now with the way interesting curriculum has expanded and fun case studies and like where schools are. John: How about the issue of when people put on those special glasses now, and they can watch a game in 3D or whatIm so out of it a little bit, Peter, technologically speaking, but the young people are talking about the future of watching sports is were going to be able to, is going to be eventually cameras court side, and were going to be able to watch it and feel like were sitting court side and youre at a bucks game. Post-acquisition were in an interesting time in life where my dad had been ill for a while and there was no way I was going to move to Milwaukee or take, even have the prospect of taking a job because I wanted to stay in New York and be with my father. I think if nothing else, it changes the awareness, the sophistication, and the business operations of the way players will position themselves and the way theyll market themselves. Jesse the Jet, no question. Its like you think about what the culture of community is. Michael Red: And this was a decade long process, Peter? Peter Feigin: That's an interesting statement. A lot of fun. So, it's a little bit kind of nuts and delusional to go through thinking like you can kind of accomplish or solve or get anything done, but it's kind of the way I've kind of attacked life in a big way. He was a truly taught consumer products, marketing, and operations guy, was okay. And Dan Feigin still has keys to Trevors gym, which he has been putting to use by himself. She couldn't be more supporting from everything. Thats the relentless, thats the difference I think of what success is. It's about doing things for the right reasons. It keeps on changing, but we've got to be able to pivot and understand when we're out of balance. Peter: Which like, by the way, might evolve to 20%, 30% of an arena at some point. You know what I mean? John: Hey, Peter. Do you want to open a sports book? But the best way to talk about is like I'd rather throw the pass than hit the shot. Michael Red: I don't know if that's the responsibility of the organization to have that permeate throughout the city, but have you seen a shift in Milwaukee, even when it comes to people coming together from different races and different creeds? So, thank you for being on the cast today. Feigin is in charge of divvying up the five-man teams at the start of the session and typically includes himself on the strongest squad. Peter Feigin: I mean, my mouth just watered. Peter: Yeah, it is a combination of both because you really, I had a real rare opportunity to get out of sports and work outside of the sports industry for wealth. I'm just honored and grateful that you took the time to be on the cast today, man. I became the president of the company for a number of years, and then we got absorbed by NetJets and took on that role at NetJets for a couple of years, and really learned incredibly, had this opportunity to learn P&L and operational. Okay. Now, the lockdown has forced some of The Runs longstanding members to confront their athletic mortality. I need socks and I know we're not making them. Peter: Yeah. Just so I get a little. But, boy, you talk about how you go to sleep like the night, a night in March, in the middle of March last year thinking like, "Oh, my God. I love our chances this year, sincerely. Peter: Yeah, I will just tell you that was one of the most fun dreamlike things for us ever. And at the core, I've always been a sales and marketing guy. But the overarching is how do we maintain kind of championship caliber excellence, like across the business and across the team. Michael Red: I just, I got to start the podcast off with, before we get into our history, someone just texted me and wanted me to ask you this question. Talk about your organization, community involvement, and the impacts that you get to make both positive and otherwise. Wednesday, June 20 7:00 AM 2023 ERI. The NBA is 80% of the players are African American, in such a big way. It's the same way she'll listen through what I'm going through. What a wonderful experience. I actually read a whole story, theres a whole article, Peter, about your ring. John: Thats so true. How do we affect the community together? I also listen, I thought, and my parents thought both my brother and I were as you can imagine before ADD was actually diagnosed, Peter: for kids our age and stuff, because its still be on impulsive, relentless, like, [inaudible]. And I think it was like a checkpoint for us certainly, but for the whole country on like, "Boy, this is one of those inflection points that we've got to make matter in a big way." John: What did you study? Even though you're at the World of Disney, even Disney after about 10 days, you're ready to get out of Disney no matter where you are. His rise from recruiter's president, handing out parking tickets in the Buck's lot, working for social justice in the epicenter of the global movement, and his unique leadership style. And then we kind of sat there until like, "Oh, my God." Does he play defense?. Today I'm talking with Peter Feigin, President of the MBA's Milwaukee Bucks and formerly Vice-President of Marketing for the New York Knicks, and Director of Marketing at Six Flags. I think to be successful here and take it from a very fast talking, sometimes lazy speaking New Yorker, who swears too much and does everything. Feigin got the funding approved in the next couple months, and the Bucks signed a 30-year lease to stay in Milwaukee. Before we get talking about all the amazing things you've done in basketball, and just coming off amazing championship. Do you want to like, figure out what the handles are and become aThere are lots of opportunities in that realm, which I think are immediate. And maybe 15 years ago, when I was working in Madison Square Garden, my brother was in a parent conference with Mark Lasry and Mark might have mentioned that he wants to look at some teams. Thats just my view, Lasry said. But I think, if you sprinkle in the effort and the care, it affects change. He ran companies like Alma and Posner and cosmetics. I wander around the house, Feigin said in a recent telephone interview. Talk about that. Michael Red: Hey, everybody, this is Michael Red and welcome to the Betting on Yourself Podcast, where I interview successful entrepreneurs, athletes, and other top performers who rose to the top, took success into their own hands and bet on themselves. So, the end of the story is I was responsible to hire CEO, so I got two or three candidates I knew Mark and Wes would hate and they couldn't hire them because they didn't like something about them. Its all about your partner, it was one of these opportunities where she was just all in and to her benefit, like I owe her forever because it was, like its been an unbelievable, run and a huge opportunity. Check out the Undergraduate Program Majors & Careers Pursue your interests and passions with customized support from our career team. They better know you, they better get you. And then I think on a parallel track, youre really building an infrastructure. That's right. Thats an interesting question. How do we make this more than equal?" And I don't know how many people know this, towards the end of his life, he really kind of did exhibitions, talks, and meetings literally until the day he almost died and traveled the country and the world as really kind of an incredible role model with an incredible story. Peter: John, the best. Talk about the steps leading up to pulling off, living the dream, actually winning the championship. Its kind of like the unwritten rule: Dont argue about anything. Ive never seen less arguing in a serious pickup game, said Adam Keefe, a former N.B.A. Peter: We like to be, delusionally optimistic. They cause matchup problems for their fathers friends. Our owners, when you talk about, our active operating board of governors, youve got guys like Mark Lazari who kind of in avenue capital and ran the distressed debt world. So, just being a part of that, I mean, I know it sounds crazy. Im sure somehow our paths will cross. The one thing that's been impressive for me, being a part of the family, is seeing how you all embrace the city. And that is one of the best ways to summarize Peter's spirit. Peter Feigin: Well, Mr. Red, it's kind of for naught, I'd do anything for you, so this is an easy period of time. This is all a good launch point for Feigin to introduce a state-of-the-art arena. Really surprised the 15 largest companies aren't following our lead and kind of like, "Where are they?" So, it's really about cost containment and preservation of jobs. I encourage it, and selfishly, its a fun way to network and deal with people. Just search SNOWCAST in the App Store or click here. Peter Feigin: Yeah, I think number one, it's restarting the business. The Run also often doubles as a day care. More recently, Tom Kearns, a mental health counselor and one of The Runs longtime staples, has been bringing his 12-year-old daughter, Sophia, so she can shoot hoops on the side with Dan Feigins 12-year-old daughter, Dylan. Michael Red: I know the whole organization showed a ton of grit from ownership to yourself, to management and players, even losing the Democratic National Convention last year. After college, Dan Feigin got a job at Trevor teaching English and coaching sports, which meant one important thing: He had access to a gymnasium in New York City, where indoor hoops are more precious than parking spaces. I volunteered/got myself pushed into the reset committee of the bubble committee on the NBA to do something that's never been done before. Peter Feigin: Yeah. That school happens to be the place where all of Mark Lazari and Wes Edenss kids went, who are the owners of the Bucks. She's a teacher. The ability to go into an NBA franchise and really pick all the great practices which is going around in the league is a huge advantage. In the face of unprecedented circumstances . Now, you had private equity partners. Talk about that relationship that you have with the players. Talk about that. Our expectation is to win a championship. Thanks for listening. So, we continue to want to make this a place where players are like, "Shit, I've never been treated like this.". John: Thats so great. It's kind of like the joy of, like I said, I was a rough athlete compared to the Olympian and All-Star I'm talking to. I've been telling him. Lasry and Feigin met some 20 years ago when Feigin's identical twin brother, Daniel, was coaching Lasry's sons Alex and Zach for an elementary school basketball team in New York City.. Alex Woodhouse, 34, a photographer and musician who was a three-year starter at Colgate, joined the game in his mid-20s at the urging of a friend. Let that person speak. "He plays with the Bucks 95 percent of the time. Defenders are responsible for calling fouls. We're not an organization that splits up into silos of business or basketball. Where were you on sports? Back when the Feigins (now teenage) sons were much younger, Lasry suspected that Peter or Dan would give them a secret signal to scamper onto the floor if their team was losing. Its like winning the life lottery.. Peter: I went to Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Woodhouse had no idea what to expect. I don't care where you take them from, then we're on a good path." Peter is a serious businessman and an hilarious friend. Thats for every aspect of it. And this is how cities evolve. Since 3-pointers are worth 2 points and 2-pointers are only worth 1, there is a strong premium on outside shooting. Youve done it all. He's Peter Feigin, president of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, and in the nearly five years of living in the city he has come to Gee's Clippers so that Gaulien Smith, a black man, can tame his head. You are in a community thats not only sports crazy, but very community minded, the Packers, the Badgers, the Bucks are all very community involved. Alex Woodhouse "I thought I'd hit the jackpot," Feigin said. Peter: NIL has no guardrails, no anything whos getting paid what? That was out the door. Its like, hey, I worry about the execution. John: Its so amazing you say that. Michael Red: Peter, Peter Feigin. He really taught me the lesson late in life is the real geniuses or the ones who can take these complex things and talk to me about them and I understand them. This was just the very beginning, the first thought was, "Oh, boy. financial capital with human capital to end up with the right result, how is that math done in Peter Feigins head? Peter Feigin, the president of the Milwaukee Bucks, playing defense. It will host 200 events each year with the Bucks and Marquette men's basketball as anchor attractions. And I know you had a background in marketing and you worked with the Knicks at certain points in your career. It's like how do I hold my impulsive self to shut the hell up. That is like what you live for. For naming rights, Feiginsaid the franchise is looking for an international brand willing to spend $7 million to $10 million annually for 20 years. And if nothing else, like we kind of, I always answer everything pretty simply. And I'm not that much of a spiritual person, but I feel like I have been blessed/lucky 10 times more than I ever thought I'd be in my whole life. As you said, because of your mom and dads background, and because you had some of the rock stars of industry, as you say, Masters of the Universe, as your partners, you got to meld your experiences, your parents coaching, and then the rock stars came and they were also, you got a perfect soup of business experience to create this amazing success story. Its hundreds of rings. The Bucks are currently in position to make the playoffs for the second straight year and third time in four years since Feigin and friends took over. Peter Feigin: That's right. Let me just throw this out there. You talk about your operating board committee, youve got these Masters of the Universe, and really you start with the answer. You miss making a game-winning shot. But his primary challenge is to build a bridge from that world to the real world that includes a home town that is torn by strife and economic stress and forge a connection with a state that has distanced itself from the . Peter Feigin: This is where I want to be. I played soccer and basketball, not overly blessed with athleticism. When you show up for the first day, are you pinching yourself? Peter Feigin has been the President of the Milwaukee Bucks since October 2014. But I think its more the fun, the story. Were one of those cities that it was just so powerful. It was kind of like take a weekend and moonlight into a fun job. It's hard to build trust here and it's provincial. We've got Peter Feigin. Be sure and try our new SNOWCAST APP! So, we continue to want to make this a place where players are like, "Shit, I've never been treated like this.". So first of all, the bubble was kind of like so exciting, surreal, and awesome. That was my dream of dreams when I was a kid: Oh, my God. I heard or to make the statement, are you the employee of the month? And everyone was thrilled when Keefe showed up. That's actually a step up from the orange vests and hard hats he's been wearing in Milwaukee, constantly checking on the construction of the Wisconsin Entertainment and Sports Center, the non-branded name of the arena. Now, youre talking to your wife and your children and youre moving from New York City to Wisconsin. It was just such a big deal. Feigin's twin brother, Daniel, is director of the upper school at New York City's Trevor Day. Peter: Thats great, thats one of the only times that questions been asked. Hes the president of the Milwaukee Bucks and hes a native New Yorker. I'm so honored, man, to have you on the podcast. But he worries about the physical effects of another extended layoff. Why wouldn't you embrace Michael Red to really be a reflection of our franchise in such a great way because it's kind of what the great teams and brands do around the world is we've got this unbelievable legacy, which, you're a part of. How do we think about marketing around the world? MILWAUKEE Bucks President Peter Feigin helped lead the team to its first championship in 50 years, and now he has the . And that's what we try to do. Michael Red: Talk about the process of redeveloping downtown and one who's so in love with Milwaukee and it's like a second home to me, living there for so many years. Its not really in a place where I could tell you, like, hey, heres our growth potential. Not everyone is. Peter Feigin: So, that was and sort of weird comfort in that everybody in the world was going through it. You take them from, then we kind of sat there until like, `` Oh, hes going build.
